He was at the right place at the right time. Hayfield High School teacher Grant Kennert recently gave the Heimlich maneuver to a seventh-grade student who was chocking on a piece of a mozzarella stick.

Kennert took the Heimlich training last summer and within 15 seconds, the cheese was dislodged.

With his quick reaction, Kennert may very well have saved the life of the student.

It’s moments like these where we should all pause and think hard about going through CPR, first aid and Heimlich training because you never know when it is needed.

We’re thankful for our local teachers such as Kennert, who go above and beyond on a daily basis to help our kids.

We commend his efforts and look forward to seeing what great things both Kennert and the student accomplishes at Hayfield High School for years to come.
