HAYFIELD — The Vikings took it inside, shot from outside and just did whatever they wanted in a win over the United South Central girls Thursday night by a score of 57- 37.

Hayfield’s two big scorers, Jordyn Krekling and Kiley Severson, put in enough points between the two of them to almost tie their opponent as Severson led the way with 19 and Krekling followed with 16 points in a well played game as they hosted a very good USC team (11-9 overall).

“We executed the offense real well tonight,” head coach Fred Kindschy said. “The girls shot well and we got off to a fast start.”

The Viking shooters jumped out to a 10-0 lead before the Rebels could barely get their shoes tied.

“They (USC) came out with a man to man defense against us,” Kindschy said. “And before they could switch to a zone we had jumped out to a nice lead.”

Each team got to the charity stripe about the same but there again the Vikings were able to gain some ground as they shot 9-of-13 to the Rebel’s 5-for-12.

Hayfield (16-5 overall) also faired well from behind the three point arc as they were able to hit four to extend their lead even further as the second half got underway.

USC had trouble with Hayfield’s tremendous defensive effort all night but especially in the second half as Hayfield held them to five points for the first 10 minutes of the frame.

None of the Rebel shooters were able to get into double figures.

Sophomore Danielle Koestler lead the scoring for the Rebels with eight points.

Hayfield plays Byron at home next Monday night in a make-up game.
