Cardinal girls can’t find the offense in loss to Falcons

LEROY – The Cardinals girls basketball team didn’t have a problem with shot selection but they did have trouble scoring in a 54-34 loss to Fillmore Central in LeRoy Saturday.

L/O (13-9 overall) trailed 41-31 after Rachel Rosedahl hit a three-pointer on a kick-out from Mac Bunne with 9:49 left in the game. But the Cards would score only once more the rest of the night on a three-point play by Mac Bunne to make it 45-34 with 7:15 left in the contest.

“I figure (we had) about 10 missed lay-ups just looking at the shot chart,” L/O head coach Russ Foster said. “That’s 20 points. Our inability to finish was the main thing and when you miss a couple of them it certainly wears on you.”

After the Falcons (13-11 overall) scored the last four points of the first half to take a 33-17 lead to the break, it was sophomore guard Connor Nagle who took control.

Nagle scored 10 of her team’s 21 points over the last 17 minutes, while making just one field goal – a three-pointer to put the Falcons up 14 with 6:48 left in the game.

“We had some breakdowns defensively. We lost Connor Nagle at crucial times when we had talked about not wanting to lose her,” Foster said. “She’s gonna make you pay.”

After Rosedahl hit a three-pointer to open the game, The Falcons responded with a 14-2 run over the next five minutes.
