BP boys hang on to beat K/M

Matt Zellmer and the Awesome Blossoms didn’t score a lot but they scored enough over Kasson-Mantorville to win 56 -53 on Thursday night.

Zellmer doesn’t have to always score big for BP (14-3 overall) but his 18 points were enough as he came on strong in the second half, following team mate Josh Toquam’s game leading 22 points.

“Fortunatley for us Josh (Toquam) was hot tonight,” BP point guard Austin Moe said. “Matt (Zellmer) missed alot of shots but he had a bunch of rebounds to make up for it.”

The Blossoms did not shoot as well as usual but their defense kept them in the game.

“The boys were able to take them out of what they wanted to do,” BP head coach Jon Bruns said. “K-M was not able to penetrate at all and with their big, very athletic guys, they really needed to penetrate.”

As well as Zellmer’s 11 rebounds, junior Justen Ingvalson played scrappy and tough for the Blossoms.

“Justen really stepped up,” Bruns said. “He got three really big steals in the game just as K-M was trying to make a move.”

BP plays at home Friday against United South Central in a Gopher Conference match-up.

BP scoring; Josh Toquam 22, Matt Zellmer 18, Cooper Nelson 6, Josh Johnson 4, Robert Hofius 3, Austin Moe 3
