Bowling for dollars

Anything that’s a positive impact on our local economy, especially in a recession, is a good thing.

The Minnesota State Open Championship organized by the Unites States Bowling Congress rolled into Austin last weekend and is expected to generate $3 to $4 million into Austin’s economy before the bowling tournament ends May 3.

As reported by the Herald’s Katie Johnson in Sunday’s edition, roughly 4,000 bowlers throughout the tournament, around 500 people each weekend, will fill area hotels.

Echo Lanes is hosting the event that could have a substantial economic impact for Austin and its surrounding communities.

Ideally, these bowlers will see what Mower County has to offer and then plan a return trip.

We’re proud of Echo Lanes’ officials for submitting a bid and landing it, and we encourage our residents to welcome our visitors and show them the hospitality that makes our communities great.
