Vikings lose another close one

For the second time this week, the Vikings boys basketball team couldn’t pull off a close game as they fell short to Kenyon/Wanamingo (3-7 overall) 65-61 in Hayfield Thursday.

The Vikings (4-8 overall) led 33-28 at the half, but found themselves tied at 60 with one minute to go. That’s when K/W’s Brady Anfinson went to the paint on a back-door pass and drew a foul as he scored.

“It was a tough break for us,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “It wasn’t clearly a block or a charge. It was a coin flip and it went against us.”

Anfinson hit the following free throw and after a Hayfield turnover, he hit two more free throws to ice it.

It was the fourth game Hayfield has lost by four points or less this season.

“Since we’re young, I hope it makes us better later in the year,” Pack said. “But this was a frustrating loss, because we felt like were in control and they just started making shots.”

Hayfield scoring: Tanner Kramer, 19; Kody Kramer, 9; Ben Pollock, 9; Kelly Dornink, 8; Bobbie Stephens, 6; Clint Freiheit, 4; Tyler Krekling, 3; Nathan Conroy, 3
