Austin Public Schools students competed in the district spelling bee Wednesday. Twenty-three competitors in grades 5-8 spelled round after round to determine the top six finishers. The winners of the spelling bee are:

First place: Lisa Stundahl, grade 8, Ellis Middle School

Second place: Madaline Rohr, grade 5, Neveln Elementary

Third place: Bailee Brandt, grade 5, Neveln Elementary

Fourth place: Sarah Willrodt, grade 5, Southgate Elementary

Fifth place: Clyde Carver, grade 7, Ellis Middle School

Sixth place; alternate to Regions: Alex Hepler, grade 7, Ellis Middle School

The first through fifth place winners will compete at the Southeast Minnesota Regional Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
