Packer wrestling team edges out Mankato West

All of the little things counted for the Packer wrestling team when it edged out Mankato West 34-33 on the road Thursday.
The Packers (7-10 overall, 3-3 Big Nine) clinched the win when Brett Kraemer avoided getting pinned in a 6-0 loss to Evan Jones at 215. Another Packer who got out of a jam was Nate Williamson, who lost 8-3 to Alex Dittrich at 152. But Williamson escaped from his back in the first period.
“Avoiding the pin has been something we’ve been preaching and it was really big for us tonight,” Austin head coach Bill Kinney said. “This was a nice upset win for us.”
Austin gathered it’s fair share of pins as Lucas Akkerman, Bryce Zahradnik, Ethan Eggum, and Michael Hirsch all won by fall.
“There were a number of spots where we had guys step up that’s what we’ve been waiting for,” Kinney said.
Hirsch and Eggum are each 22-1 on the year.
