The Packer wrestling team four wrestlers go undefeated at the Decorah, Iowa Invite Saturday.

In dual matches, Austin lost to South Winneshiek, Iowa 39-34, beat LaCrescent 58-19, and beat Lancaster, Wis. 39-29.

The Packers (5-6 overall) lost to first place Decorah 40- 28 in the final match finished third.

The four Packers to go 4-0 were Michael Hirsch, Howie Underwood, Ethan Eggum and Jacob Finnegan. All four were on the All-Tourney team and Hirsch was selected the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler, while Finnegan won the award for most pins in least ammount of time (three in 4:56).

Hirsch, who is 16-1 on the season, had an 11 second pin, a technical fall and two major decisions at 189 pounds. He allowed 11 points on the day, all on intentional releases.

Eggum had a major decision and had two pins while picking up hist 75th career win and Underwood won his 60th career match.

“After only two practices in the last eight days, we weren’t sure how the team would wrestle,” Austin head coach Bill Kinney said. “The team wrestled with a lot of heart and hustle, and and put us in a position to win each of the duals on Saturday.  We took 24 kids to the tournament and were able to get 20 of them at least one match. We swept the awards handed out at the end of the tournament, so I think it was obvious to everyone in attendance that we had a great day on the mat.”

Brett Kraemer went 3-1 and Thomas Herrera went 2-1 for Austin. Jay McConnell, Aaron Juenger, and Bobbe Dulitz all recorded their first career wins for Austin.
