Mark Smalley, 57, of Austin, formerly of Prescott, Ariz., died at Austin Medical Center on Jan. 23, 2009 following a long illness.
Mark Allen Smalley was born May 11, 1951 in Austin to Vaughan LeRoy and Shirley Mae (Smith) Smalley. Following graduation from Austin High School, Mark went into military service, serving in Vietnam. After military service he came back to Austin. He later lived in Prescott, Ariz. for 12 years and returned to Austin one year ago. Mark liked to fish, hunt and loved to play with his devoted dog, Sam.
Surviving are two daughters, Kim Smalley and Nelly Smalley, both of Rochester; brothers and sisters, Ron (Janis) Smalley, Austin, Alvin Smalley, Austin, Gary Smalley, Minnesota Lake, Connie (Tim) Culton, Austin, Debbie (Kevin) Mott, Waconia, Nancy (Jim) Dagoot, Cincinnati; many nieces and nephews; special friend and devoted dog, Sam.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughan and Shirley Smalley.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Freedom Christian Center, 108 East Oakland, Austin, with the Reverend Rory Synoground officiating. Interment will be later at Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family prefers memorials.
