An intergenerational creation care workshop will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.
A resource fair will be held beginning at 1:30 p.m. There will be various organizations and businesses providing hints how people can be good stewards by reducing the carbon footprint.
Patricia Benson of the Lutheran Coalition of Public Policy in Minnesota will facilitate the ecumenical, educational workshop for all ages.
Faith communities have been engaged in action and advocacy relative to refugee, hunger and poverty issues. The workshop is designed to develop further understanding of how climate change is an underlying contributor to social justice issues.
While parents are working to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of climate change on core church ministries, school-age children will be engaging with animals not found in every pet store. Pastor Joy Gonnerman with All Creatures Great and Small will try to change some preconceived ideas as kids have new experiences with some creatures.
A craft to take home will be part of the fun and will also serve as a reminder of lessons learned. Child care will be provided for preschool children.
Breakout sessions for adults will provide the opportunity to discuss a variety of solutions to climate change issues, from a personal response to action plans for congregations, all based on a theological foundation for creation care.
An excerpt from the “Sisters on the Planet” DVD from Oxfam will demonstrate the connection between global issues of hunger, poverty, health, refugee and homelessness to climate change.
Resources for each of the concurrent breakout sessions will be made available on CD to all workshop participants.
The Lutheran Coalition for Public Policy in Minnesota, a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, seeks to engage all people of faith in the promotion of public policy that supports peace and justice.
The cost is $5.
Childcare provided free of charge for preschool children.
