Harriet I. (Distad) Thompson, 88
Harriet Irene (Distad) Thompson, 88, died on Jan. 9, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Harriet Irene Helleckson was born on Sept. 21, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Inger (Ulefoss) Helleckson in Wanamingo, Minn. She attended two years at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and one year at Minneapolis Business College. Harriet was a police officer in Austin and a secretary from 1957-1967 in the Austin school system and Mower County Veterans Office. She and husband Paul Thompson owned the Viking House Café in Hayfield, Minn. Harriet married Robert Distad in Hayfield on Dec. 27, 1941. They moved to Austin in 1956. Robert died in 1961. She married Paul Thompson in December of 1967, and moved back to Hayfield. He passed away in 1996. 
Harriet is survived by Robert (Linda) Distad, Minneapolis; Thomas (Shirley) Distad, Reno, Nev.; Richard (Linda) Distad, St. Paul; John (Sonja) Distad, Federal Way, Wash.; Dorothy (Phil) Haukom, Mazeppa, Minn.; Sandra (Richard) Burkhardt, Yuma, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two brothers and two sisters.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 19, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield with the Reverend Paul Hauschild officiating. Spring inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield and one hour before the service at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday.
