Eleanor G. Vaughn, 93
Eleanor Gertie Vaughn, 93, of Austin, died at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield, on Jan. 28, 2009.
She was born Oct. 16, 1915 to Henry and Margaret (Meyer) Thurneau in Aurora Township, Steele County, Minn. When Eleanor was nine years old the family moved to Austin where she attended Austin Central High School. She married Charles “Red” Wilcox on June 17, 1935. They made their home in Austin until 1979 when they moved to Spring Valley, Wis. Red passed away in 1981, and shortly after, Eleanor moved back to Austin. She owned and operated Town Talk restaurant in Lyle for several years. She married Lester Vaughn on April 7, 1982, he passed away in 1993. A member of Crane Community Chapel and the Moose Lodge, Eleanor liked to travel, knit, crochet and do word search.
Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl (David) Stigney, Minneapolism Minn., Vonda (Andrew) Buzzitta, Austin, Vickie (Larry) Waltz, Austin; three step-children, Lanny (Susan) Vaughn, Kalispel, Mont., Elliott Vaughn, Austin, Sara (Clifford) Davis, Fredericksburg, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Charles and Lester; one son at birth; a sister; a granddaughter and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 at Crane Community Chapel with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 12 at church prior to the service. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
The family prefers memorials to Crane Community Chapel.
