At 11:33 p.m. Jan. 1, Austin’s first baby of 2009 was born.
Griffin William Haugen weighed in at 8 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 19 inches.
“He’s been a perfect baby,” said mother Candice Przybylski, 27, while holding Griffin in her arms at Austin Medical Center.
For having Austin’s first child in the new year, the couple was presented with a special gift basket that overflowed with everything from toys to diapers.
“We’re just glad he’s here and healthy,” Przybylski said.
Griffin was expected to be due around Dec. 30, and his parents said he looks more like his father, Matthew Haugen, 25.
“My baby pictures look identical,” Haugen said.
Przybylski arrived at the hospital at 4 p.m. yesterday and said that all along she only had one plan for New Year’s.
“Just him,” she said. “We were just sitting around waiting for him, and he came quick once he decided to come.”
The couple wasn’t initially going to find out if it was a boy or a girl, but they found out anyway.
“(Griffin) made it obvious in the ultrasound,” Przybylski said.
The Austin early childhood special education teacher added that she was never sick during her pregnancy and craved “anything chocolate.”
“I gained more pregnancy weight than she did,” Haugen said with a smile. “Whenever she eats, I eat. It’s New Year’s workout time.”
