Trojans pounce on Pack

New Prague got a taste of revenge by beating the Austin girls basketball team 62-30 Tuesday night in New Prague.

While Austin (0-1 overall) is missing some key players from last year’s team that beat the Trojans in the section finals, New Prague returned it’s core group and it didn’t waste any time in seizing a 33-13 lead at halftime.

“It was a tough game for us to start out with,” Austin head coach Gary Peterson said. “We struggled right out of the gate. They had more intensity and a score to settle.”

New Prague forced 42 turnovers from Austin and allowed no Packer to score in double-digits. Bri Mayer, who was playing in her first varsity game, led Austin with eight points.

“We’ve just got to put this one behind us,” Peterson said. “We’re gonna get better as the season goes on and our new players learn.”
