Southland wrestlers open season

The Rebels wrestling team opened their season with two losses at the Triton Triangular Thursday night.

Hayfield beat Southland 46-25 and Triton beat them 48-24.

The Rebels had two wrestlers in their first ever matches and a two more wrestling for the first time on varsity.

“We’re young and some of our kids are getting used to it,” Southland head coach Bill Feuchtenberger said. “Our kids with experience performed the way they should.”

Grant Hegge had a big night at 130-pounds for the Rebels as he went 2-0 with two pins, and 135-pounder Matt Schroeder won both of his matches, including a 7-0 decision over Hayfield’s Nick Masching, who had beaten Schroeder last season.
