A big comeback came up short for the Southland girls in a 55-54 overtime loss to Montgomery/Lonsdale in the M/L Tournament Title game Tuesday.
Brandi Schammel hit one of her three three-pointers late in the game to pull the Rebels within one, but Southland couldn’t get the ball back for another shot in OT.
“It was a good high school basketball game,” Southland head coach Dave Decker said. “You always want to win and have another basket somewhere, but at the end of the year we’ll remember this one as a great game.”
The Rebels (5-5 overall) trailed 42-34 with five minutes left in the game, but they rallied to tie after Jana Schamel hit a three with 10 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
In OT, M/L scored the first points and never trailed.
M/L (2-6 overall) was led by Kareena Tulloch, who scored 21 points.
Southland scoring: Jana Schammel, 14; Haley Janssen, 13; Brandi Schammel, 11; Hilary Johnson, 7; Chelsey Smith, 3; Kim Craig, 3; Amber O’Connell, 2
