Pat Smith

Pat Smith, age 86 of Adams, Minn. began a new journey Dec. 11, 2008 when he peacefully passed away at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minn..
Vernon (Pat) Smith was born to John and Katherine (Gerber) Smith on June 15, 1922 in Adams Township, Mower County.  He was born on the family farm.  He attended Johnsburg Catholic School.  On Aug. 29, 1946, he married Marcella Mae Myre at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.  The couple farmed near Johnsburg, Minn. for more than 40 years along with raising eight children.
Pat was a member of St. John The Baptist Church and the Knights of Columbus.  Pat spent hours on the dance floor with his wife throughout the years.  He enjoyed horses and chariot racing with his brothers. He loved coaching softball and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.  Pat also enjoyed a good card game and spending time with family and friends.  He had the gift of socializing and easily building lasting friendships throughout his entire life.  He was a cherished husband, father, grandpa and friend to many and will be dearly missed.
He was survived by his wife: Marcella; two sons: Larry (June) Smith, Stacyville, Iowa, John (Lori) Smith, Adams, Minn.; six daughters: Connie (Colin) Gilles, Stewartville, Minn., Sandy (Mike) Jones, Blooming Prairie, Minn., Karen (Ron) May, Rochester, Minn, Shirley (Dave) Chadbourn, Eyota, Minn., Nancy (Mark) Willis, Morgan Hill, Calif., Mary (Mark) Meyer, Eyota, Minn., 26 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters: Marita (Bud) Michels and Alvina (Walter) Theobald.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers Roy, William, and Paul.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008 at the Adams Funeral Home, Knights of Columbus rosary at 5 p.m. Friends may call at the church an hour prior to mass on Tuesday.
A celebration of life for Vernon (Pat) Albert Smith will be on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, Minn. with Father James Seitz officiating.  Interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery in Johnsburg.
