The Austin Coalition for Environmental Sustainability organization sponsored a promotion, “Park It and Ride,” to encourage using less energy in September.

Approximately 775 people participated and the major sponsor, Rydjor Bike Shop, awarded prizes recently.

Holly Dalager won a new bike, and Lou Beckel won an Austin YMCA membership for her efforts to reduce her carbon footprint, save energy and also promote her own physical fitness.

During the month of September, Austin residents were encouraged to leave their vehicles at home and ride bikes to work, run errands or just exercise for health.

By stopping at participating businesses and other destinations, filling out a registration slip and entering their names in the event, people could qualify for the prizes mentioned.

Participants’ names were also drawn for numerous bus passes.

Bus pass recipients included Marlene Hannam, Dave Hannam, John Dalager, Mary Nelson, Juan Gloria, Sue Bailey, Kylie Larson, Gail Subra, Laura Hickman, Lloyd Luehmann, Miriam Luehmann and Harold Reed.
