Mildred C. (Anderson) Syverud, 94
Mildred Cora (Anderson) Syverud, 94, of Blooming Prairie, died on Dec. 21, 2008 at Prairie Manor.
She was born Jan. 19, 1914 to Sam and Amanda (Lee) Anderson in Udolpho Township, Mower County. She was baptized at Westfield Church which was built on land donated by her grandparents. She married Arthur Syverud on June 11, 1936 at First Lutheran Parsonage in Blooming Prairie. Mildred and Art worked together on the farm.
Mildred’s main interest was her home and family. Throughout her years with First Lutheran Church, she was active in Mission Circle and especially the lutefisk supper. She was in charge of the cranberry salad for many years.
Another of Mildred’s and Art’s passions was family history. They traveled to visit relatives and gather family history in Norway and Canada, as well as in the United States. Mildred had been compiling scrapbooks of newspaper clippings dating back to 1930. She continued to work on these even after becoming a resident of Prairie Manor.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Arthur, Blooming Prairie; three daughters, Joanne (David) Shaw, Castro Valley, Calif., Doris (Herman) Moe, Grand Forks, N.D., Janice (Michael) Kohlrusch, Circle Pines, Minn., Roger (Bettie) Syverud, Arden Hills, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Ronald Shaw, Renae Harryman, William Moe, Barbra Scharber, John Syverud, Tammy Hartman and Wendy Olsen; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, Christopher Todd, Michael Todd, Amy Shaw, Reid Shaw, Jacob Scharber, Katrina Moe, Isabella Moe, Olivia Moe; sister, Berneice Wilson of Owatonna; three step-great-grandchildren; brother, Arlen Anderson, Brainerd, Minn.; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gladys Stuhr; grandson, Randall Shaw.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment is at First Lutheran Cemetery. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Westfield Church Restoration Fund or donor’s choice.
