LETTER: Be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide
Published 10:24 am Thursday, December 11, 2008
This is a wonderful time of year. Everyone is preparing for holidays and enjoying the snow (because we’re not sick of it yet.) However, with the cold weather brings a danger as well. With heaters turned on, the chances of carbon monoxide death and illness rises.
I recently had a malfunction of the boiler in my home, and had I not had a carbon monoxide detector, chances are my story could have ended very badly. However, because of the detector, we were able to have the problem addressed before anything bad happened to my family and me.
I would like to thank Austin Public Utilities and Arens Heating and Cooling for prompt service so we did not have to worry or go without heat. I urge everyone to be sure they have a working carbon monoxide detector in their home and in the homes of loved ones. In this season of giving, it may even make a great gift for someone. May you all be safe this holiday season.
