Elmer F. Uthke, 87
Elmer F. Uthke, 87, of rural Dover died on Friday Nov. 28, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Elmer was born Aug. 17, 1921 in Eyota to Benhart and Clara (Pries) Uthke. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946 in Rome and the South Pacific. Following the war Elmer married Phyllis Loppnow on Oct. 26, 1947. She died in June of 1953. He married Annabell R. Plank on Feb. 12, 1957. Elmer farmed near Dover, drove a milk truck for Tom Smith and Bernie Boettcher and worked at Schultz Equipment of St. Charles.
He was a member of the St. Charles United Church of Christ, the St. Charles Veterans of Foreign War and American Legion Posts. Elmer enjoyed fishing trips, going on cruises and Friday morning ‘Tea Parties’ with his brothers and brothers-in-law.
Survivors include his wife, Annabell; three children, Charles (Rachel) Uthke, Austin, Dennis (Shirley) Uthke, Dover and Dianne K. Lechner, Janesville, Minn.; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin and LaVaine (Marguarite), Eyota; sister, Velate Schuchard, Millville and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis; two brothers, Charles and Alvin and two sisters, Luella and Bernice.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Charles United Church of Christ with Pastor Jason Chamberlain officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Viola. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
