Dorothy Blanchard, 87
Dorothy Blanchard, 87, died on Dec. 13, 2008 at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester where she had resided for about four years.
Dorothy C. Allen was born on Dec. 24, 1920 in Grand Meadow, Minn. to Charles and Laura Allen. She attended school in Grand Meadow, graduating in 1938. She then attended cosmetology training in Minneapolis, Minn. for two years.
On Dec. 1, 1945 she was united in marriage to Junior “Corky” Blanchard at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow. Together they lived in many communities in southern Minnesota, with the longest time spent in the Byron and Grand Meadow areas. Dorothy worked as a self employed beautician all her life. She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, dancing and especially loved the Vikings.
Dorothy is survived by six children, Mike (Mary) Blanchard, Spring Valley, Ann (Sidney) Saltz, Evanston, Ill., Barbara (Jim) Pappas, Rochester, Paul (Jeannine) Blanchard, Orlando, Fla., James Blanchard, Rochester and Jon Blanchard, Orlando; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers; Clair Allen and Jerry (Ruth) Allen, both of Austin, and two sisters, Carol Cross, California and Bernice (Fritz) Schafer, Minneapolis, Minn.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorial services for Dorothy C. Blanchard will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at St. Finbarr Catholic Church with the Reverend Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice or to the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer Studies. Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow is in charge of arrangements.
