David W. Kamp, 62
David Wilmer Kamp, 62, of Austin, died on Dec. 27, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
He was born April 11, 1946 in Austin, the son of Vernon and Mildred (Steile) Kamp. He attended school in Hayfield where he graduated in 1965. He then joined the United States Army, serving from Jan. 31, 1966 until his discharge on January 12, 1969. He continued to serve his country with the Minnesota National Guard from 1969 to 1993. After his discharge from the United States Army, David worked as a roundhouse foreman for the Milwaukee Road Railroad in Austin for over fourteen years. On June 2, 1973, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Getchell at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin. The couple made their home in Austin, where after working for the railroad, the couple managed the Sterling Motel for two years before moving to Dodge City, Kan., where they also managed a motel. They returned to Austin to again manage the Sterling Motel before moving to Faribault and later Rochester, where they worked as caretakers for apartment complexes until David’s retirement in 2002. He enjoyed deer hunting and traveling, especially their trip to Germany to visit their daughter. He was a member of American Legion Post 91, VFW Post 1216 and DAV Chapter 27, where David served as trustee. 
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kamp, Austin; five children, Julie (Bruce) Newell, Rochester, Linda (Staff Sgt. Tony) Heise, Fort Gordon, Georgia, Ken (Barb) Shuck, Jon Kamp and Laura (Tony) Myhre all of Austin; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; eight sisters, Joyce (Clifford) Carlson, St. Paul, Jean Thompson, Forest City, Iowa, Marjorie Distad, Albert Lea, Patricia (Bernard) Schaefer and Rita (Arnold) Earl both of Austin, Linda (Jerry) Meyer, Pepin, Wis., Karen (John) Torvik, Newcastle, Calif. and Debra (Leonard) Wood, Owatonna; five brothers, LaVerne (Jeri) Kamp, Austin, Charles Kamp, Hooks, Texas, Douglas Kamp, Keith Kamp and Scott (Denise) Kamp all of Austin; also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mildred Kamp; one grandson, Richard Kamp; sister, Joan Lester and three brothers, Ricky, Raymond and Roger.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Crane Community Chapel with the Reverend Dale Christiansen, officiating. Interment will follow the service in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 91, VFW Post 1216 and DAV Chapter 27. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Honorary Casketbearers will be Ken Shuck, Jon Kamp and Spc. Lucas Heise.  Casketbearers will be Bruce Newell, Staff Sgt. Tony Heise, Tony Myhre, Curtis Shuck, Dustin Shuck and Zachary Heise.
