David A. Hovland, 79
David A. Hovland, 79, of Adams, died on Dec. 13, 2008, at Austin Medical Center. David Allen Hovland was born May 24, 1929 in Austin, to Harold and Olga (Lerum) Hovland. He attended local schools until he went into military service. He served twice, the end of World War II and the Korean War. He then went to work for George A. Hormel and Co., where he worked for 33 years. David was united in marriage to Betty (Codner) Twedt on Nov. 21, 1967 in Sioux Falls, S.D. They shared many interests, including: fishing, doing puzzles, playing cards, driving the school bus and especially Harley motorcycle trips on the “Jolly Green Giant.” They also enjoyed time at their lake home at Nevis, where they lived for 16 years. David was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Eagles Club.
Surviving are his wife, Betty, Adams; stepchildren, Jackie (Jerry) Reuter, Austin and Tim Twedt, Illinois; four step-grandchildren, Brad Reuter, Scott Reuter, Stacy Reuter, Kelly Twedt; four step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marion Travetto, Austin, Nancy Vaughan, Shakopee, Deanna (Bill) LeBarron, Worland, Wyoming; brothers, George (Lorraine) Hovland, Austin, Orlo (Helen) Hovland, Austin, Nathan (Virginia) Hovland, California, sister-in-law, Ruth Hovland, Austin, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold and Olga Hovland; siblings, Emery, Dean (a twin), Irene and Henry (twins in infancy), Arthur (infancy).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Russell Wangen officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery in Austin with military honors by VFW Post 1216.
