The city of Austin has approved an off-street parking appeal for the Hormel Historic Home’s proposed 6,900-square-foot addition and existing facility.
Proposed on-site and surrounding parking includes the facility itself, the Austin Drug lot and the Nemitz lot. There are zero stalls available at the home; 99 non-leased municipal stalls are available Monday through Friday; 110 municipal stalls are available for Saturday and Sunday use.
The city code says that up to 100 percent of the total required off-street parking spaces may be waived by the Board of Adjustment and Appeals when adequate parking capacity exists or will be provided through public parking lots and garages within 300 feet of the facility.
The Hormel Home’s $340,000 addition will include a banquet room and commercial kitchen; the purpose is to meet the need for rental space.
Located at 208 Fourth Ave. N.W., the home was built in 1871.
