It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.

The biggest snowstorm of the season so far is expected to arrive in Austin and its surrounding communities tonight and stay through tomorrow morning.

Chris Kuball, meteorologist for KAAL, said Monday afternoon the storm is moving across northern Iowa and headed this way.

Shortly after 2 p.m., freezing rain and light snow began to touch down.

Kuball said heavy snow will begin some time after sunset.

“We’ll see some heavy snow after it transitions until tomorrow morning,” he said.

The region is expected to get anywhere between four to eight inches of snow, with winds picking up as well.

As for the roads?

“They’re probably going to get pretty nasty,” he said.

Information on any possible school closures in Austin tomorrow will be posted on www.austin.k12.mn.us.
