Austin girls hockey team falls short against No. 6 ranked Mankato West

The Austin girls hockey team played well against some tough competition in a 3-2 loss at Mankato West, which is ranked No. 6 in the state, Thursday.
The game was tied at 2, when West’s Alyssa Black knocked in a shot on an assist from Katy Kvasnicka at the 6:51 mark in the third period.
“We skated very well and we played right with them,” said Austin head coach Denny Bray. “The girls played their hearts out and I’m very proud of them.”
Austin (2-6-2 overall, 1-5 Big Nine) tied the game shortly before Black’s goal when Kyli Ellingson scored on assists from Kennedy Thompson and Courtney Brooks.
The Packers first goal was scored by Carley Grunewald in the first period.
Manakato West (8-1 overall, 5-1 Big Nine) got a first and second period goal from Kvasnicka.
The Packers outshot West 32-29 on the night and they had 17 shots in the third period.
