If you were dreaming of a White Christmas, you have your wish.

The second big snowstorm of the year touched down late Thursday night and early Friday morning.

KAAL Meteorologist Steven Sosna said Friday that Austin received six inches of new snow in the storm that started at midnight Thursday and tapered off this morning.

And it’s only the beginning.

Sosna said snow will be building up once again late Saturday morning, with near white-out conditions Saturday night. Wind chills are expected to be 15 to 30 below zero. Snow will then taper off Sunday, with winds still gusting between 30 to 40 miles an hour.

So far in December, the Austin area has received 20.5 inches of snow, Sosna said. The average for the same time period is 9.7 inches.

Austin Public Schools Superintendent Bruce Anderson announced early Friday that all schools, both public and non public, were canceled today in Austin. In addition, community service, early childhood family education and kids corner programs were closed as well.
