Norman D. Swanson, 80
Norman Swanson, 80, of Blooming Prairie, Minn. died on Nov. 22, 2008, at the Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield, Minn.
Norman Dean Swanson was born March 12, 1928 at home in Klemme, Iowa to Carl Edward and Martha Marie (Grieman) Swenson. He went to school in Ventura, Iowa and farmed with his father. On July 24, 1948 he married Pearl Joy Matoon in Britt, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa until 1960. They moved to the Hayfield area and farmed until 1990, when they moved to Blooming Prairie. Norman loved to fly and was a member of Flying Farmers, was active in the local Camping Club and was a board member of the P.C.A. He was on the church board at Crane Chapel for a number of years. Pearl and Norman spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., where he was active in the shuffleboard teams and the tennis club. Norman’s true love was farming, he had seen 70 seasons come and go to the end.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl, Blooming Prairie; five sons, Randy (Carol) Swanson, Hatfield, Craig (Diane) Swanson, Verona, Wis., Kim (Marian) Swanson, Canyon City, Texas, Jeff (Susan) Swanson, Hayfield, Mike (Wendy) Swanson, Hayfield; 20 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Marcele Lindquist, Naples, Fla.; brothers, Ronald (Darlene) Swanson, Forest City, Iowa; Eugene (Deanna) Swanson, Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Reta Arney, Freemont, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Martha Swanson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Lola Matoon; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with the Reverend Karl Korbel officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Friends may call at Worlein-Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. The organist will be Betty Ingvaldson. Casketbearers will be Neil Swanson, Nick Swanson, Justin Swanson, Lynn Swanson, Chris Swanson, Daniel Swanson and honorary casketbearer Carroll Etchen.
