Hazel C. Evans, 66
Hazel C. (Mrs. John S.) Evans, 66, of Faribault, died on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Prior Lake.
Hazel Clarine, the daughter of Ernest and Mable Handeland was born on Jan. 20, 1942 in Austin. She attended country school and graduated from Austin High School. She attended Wartburg and Waldorf Colleges and later received her master’s degree in Math. She taught school in Iowa and later at Faribault Junior High School for 30 years. She married John S. Evans on Dec. 12, 1971 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2003. She was very active in volunteering in her community and church.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Bryan) Smith, Prior Lake; two grandchildren, Julia Smith, Fargo, N.D. and Devin Smith, Prior Lake; her mother, Mable Handeland, Austin; four siblings, Ione (Duane Linsey) Johnson, Bemidji, Elaine (Dave) Macy, Mission Viejo, Calif., Cynthia (Reverend Bruce) Hannem, Nisswa and Gordon (Donna) Handeland, Austin; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John and her father, Ernest Handeland.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Faribault, with the Reverend Allan Nelson officiating. Interment will be held in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be held in the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 from 3 to 7 p.m. and also in the church for one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
