Christy Hansen wrote a book that, he said, was to be his last.
Then, a heart attack almost guaranteed that would be true.
He survived, and thanks to quadruple heart bypass surgery, he is back on his feet and ready to launch his new book “Oh, My God!” this week.
Hansen will hold book signings Tuesday and Thursday at the Austin Public Library and Philomathian Book Store in Austin.
He will sign books at the library from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday in the lobby and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Philomathian Book Store.
“It’s a paperback book that everyone should read,” Hansen confidently said. “Because it concerns everyone.”
According to Hansen, a deeply religious man, his self-published book could be titled “A Handbook to Heaven.”
“A main message is that time is preciously short,” Hansen said, “The Rapture — God’s return— is imminent.”
“The signs are all in place,” he said, “It could be tomorrow. Nobody promised us a future; not on this Earth.”
“Miracles are happening; most of which we rarely hear about,” he alleged.
“The book itself is a sign.”
Hansen is a retired educator and civic organizer.
He was one of the creators of the Homework Help Line service that offered tutorial assistance to students over the telephone.
His religious faith has prompted him to write his own “highway to heaven” road map.
Hansen suffered a heart attack July 9 or immediately after announcing his new book and scheduling singing parties.
After quadruple bypass heart surgery, he first spent time at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home recovering and undergoing rehabilitation.
Now, he said, “I’m on my way back.”
