Austin Medical Center has announced David Agerter, M.D., as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Agerter will be replacing Timothy Johnson, M.D., who is stepping down after 14 years as AMC’s CEO. Johnson will continue seeing patients in the Pain Clinic at AMC.
Agerter comes to AMC with extensive background in health care, including serving as chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic from 1996 to 2005 and is the current associate dean at the Mayo School of Health Sciences, College of Medicine, in Rochester.
He currently is a family medicine provider at the Mayo Family Clinic in Kasson, Minn., seeing patients for the past 26 years. Agerter also was honored as the 2007 Minnesota Family Physician of the Year.
Johnson says Agerter’s excellent qualifications will continue the medical center’s mission, “Caring, For Your Life” well into the future.
“Dr. Agerter’s long-time service to patients in a small town, clinical setting is as important as his administrative experience,” Johnson said. “Austin Medical Center and the communities we serve are very fortunate to have Dr. Agerter and his wife, Barb, come to Austin.”
Agerter will transition into the new CEO role beginning Nov. 17 and will take over all Austin Medical Center CEO responsibilities beginning Jan. 1.
