The Riverland volleyball team fell short to Minnesota West (6-10 overall, 1-2 MCAC) in Worthington Wednesday in four games. Minnesota West beat the Blue Devils (6-5 overall, 1-2 MCAC) by scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23.
The last two games went down to the wire, with Riverland not being able to pull either one off.
“The third and fourth games both were neck and neck the whole way,” Riverland head coach Helen Jahr said. “The rallies were long and it just came down to a missed call or a fluke at the end and they just got a couple more breaks. If anything, it was serve receives that hurt us.”
Riverland started off losing the first game and was down 9-2 in the second game, before turning momentum.
“I wasn’t sure we could come back after not being able to make up four points in game one, but Kristi Schemmel came in and they had a tough time returning her serves,” Jahr said.
Tiffany Preuss had 21 assists and one block for Riverland, Schemmel had 31 digs, eight kills and two ace serves, Ashleigh Smith had 26 digs and two ace serves, Ashley Lau had nine kills and two aces, Kate Krogh had nine kills and Brooke Monson had one block.
