Austin Mayor Tom Stiehm discussed and reviewed a proposed Minnesota Department of Transportation box culvert replacement beneath Interstate 90 near East Side Lake during a work session Monday.

The project is scheduled for the 2009 construction season.

According to the presentation, minimal detours around the construction site are expected.

The preliminary plans call for replacing box culverts from Dobbins Creek to East Side Lake with same-size culverts so as not to increase the flow of water downstream.

Traffic will remain on I-90 with work on one side of the freeway at a time.

According to the presentation, the gaul will be to keep the freeway ramps open to traffic with the exception of the east- and west-found ramps along Oakland Place East.

Service roads on both sides of the freeway will be closed to traffic.

The pedestrian trail on the lake side will also be closed.

A sanitary sewer force main will be relocated as part of the project. IT is part of the city’s proposed five-year Capital Improvement Plan.

The estimated cost of the work is $100,000.
