The Austin boys soccer team (4-2-2 overall, 1-2-2 Big Nine) had to settle for a 3-3 tie in Faribault Thursday.
Austin scored three goals in the first half, but was held off down the stretch, despite outshooting the Falcons (4-2-1 overall, 1-2-1 Big Nine) 4-0 in overtime.
“We had a number of shots right in there and we created some opportunities,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said.
Levisen said the match was dictated by Faribault’s field, which is much smaller than Austin’s.
“Their field was just tiny, it was one of those times were homefield advantage was huge,” he said. “They were taking shots from the half line, and every time their keeper came up with the ball, he could punt it to our 18-yard line with ease.”
Will Darling scored the first goal for Austin on an assist from Drew Halvin two minutes into the game. Martin Manocchio scored the 17 minutes into the first half on an assist from Jacob Brehmer, and Henry Darling scored 22 minutes into the first half.
Austin led 3-2 at the half, before the Falcons tied it up.
Austin had 21 shots, and Ryan Rasell had 10 saves for the Packers.
