The county board building committee recommended Tuesday paying Kevin Soiney $30,000 of the $50,000 in relocation monies to move his George’s Pizza business to a new location downtown.
Soiney had requested at least $25,000 of the relocation grant, according to county officials.
Mower County acquired the restaurant as well as the adjoining Thoroughbred Carpet real estate from Richard Huffman and his wife this summer.
The county is attempting to acquire the remainder of the Robbins block real estate from owners of Robbins Furniture and Design Gallery and a northeast corner lot owned by Tom and Arley Sherman.
Plans call for demolishing the giant, three-story, 27,000-square-foot building to make way for a parking lot and geothermal field for the new downtown jail and justice center.
On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the building committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. to discuss a petition to have an environmental assessment worksheet done on the Robbins block.
Austin Main Street Project and other community interests have balked at the county’s plans to demolish the Robbins block’s real estate to make way for a parking lot and geothermal field.
Paul Reuvers, the county’s private legal counsel, will attend the Sept. 30 meeting to offer advice.
