Youth show off talents

Three contestants took first-place honors in their divisions at the 2008 Mower County Fair Amateur Talent Contest Saturday.
The first-place winners will advance to represent Mower County at the 2008 Minnesota State Fair the last week in August.
Pre-teen
division: Ezekiel Peters, Austin, piano solo
Teen
division: Elizabeth Unseth, Austin, violin solo
Open Division: McKenzie Beckel, Austin, jazz dance.
Other winners were as follows:
Pre-teen: second place, Brett Canny, Brownsdale, piano solo and third place, Mckenzie Beckel and Madison Klein, Austin, jazz dancing
Teen Division: second place, Gunnar Peters, Austin, vocal solo and third place, Tasha Striker, Austin, flute solo
Open Division: second place, Brian Tube, Brownsdale, standup comedy and third place, Brooke Hamilton, Adams, vocal solo
“A large crowd enjoyed 25 talented artists,” said Vandy Newman, who coordinated the contest.
First-place winners received $40, second place received $30 and third place received $20.
