Wolf imposters actually just dogs

The two alleged wolves roaming Interstate 90 near Austin are actually wild dogs, according to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi, who said that biologists from Minnesota Department of Natural Resources made the determination after analyzing photographs taken by field staff.
“At best, they said they’re dog-wolf mixes,” Amazi said.
The animal pair have been causing quite a stir since their appearance near the highway several weeks ago. The canines were originally deemed wolf escapees from a Hayfield, Minn., facility, though that later proved false.
Last reported near the Austin Municipal Airport Thursday, Amazi the two dogs have been feeding on deer carcasses pulled into the median ditch of the interstate.
It is legal to shoot wild dogs, Amazi said, adding that they can be a menace to farm animals and pets.
