Mower County deputies were dispatched to Sergeant Friday on reports of bullet damage to a mobile home and rural farm office, according to Chief Deputy Mark May, who said one may have involved a large-caliber gun.

May said authorities responded to a hog confinement facility, 32910 640th Ave., at 7:41 a.m., where shots had entered an office window and hit a paper towel dispenser and cabinet.

The two bullet holes were 5.56 mm or larger, he said, noting that neither bullets were located.

Owner Larry Dean Larson estimated damage at about $100.

A Sergeant home, 29970 610th Ave., about 1-2 miles from the hog farm was also victimized. Deputies responded to Jeffrey Erath’s residence after his wife found a small bullet in their bathtub and bullet holes to an adjacent wall, according to May.

May stated that Erath located a total of eight holes to the north wall of his home after returning around 9:30 a.m. Several entered a bedroom and computer room, and one bullet was recovered.

He suspected the damage may have come from a small-caliber firearm or pellet gun.

May said no suspects have been arrested, and he couldn’t say whether it was “kids out shooting a pellet gun” or small caliber rifle, or if a larger firearm was involved.

He said that he’d be concerned if a large weapon were used, because of the great distance their bullets travel.
