The Northwestern Singers will begin their 2008-09 season on Monday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Edwards Catholic Church’s family room in Austin. Beginning Sept. 15, rehearsals are at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. They welcome new singers who enjoy performing many styles of music. Auditions will be held during the first two weeks of rehearsals. The Northwestern Singers is a group of at least 40 men and women from many backgrounds and ages with the common love of singing and performing. They present a show each January at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, complete with live orchestra, singing and choreography. Only those who are willing and able to do the choreography will participate.
The NWS present a spring concert each May and also hold a fundraiser concert each November that includes performances by area school groups from elementary to high school. They share the proceeds of that fundraiser concert with the youth groups. To date, the Northwestern Singers have given more than $20,000 to area school youth music programs.
Rehearsals are every Monday night, 7 to 9 p.m., from September through January for the winter show and from February to May for the spring concert.
