Letter: Demonstrators not against legal immigrants

I was participating in the demonstration against illegal aliens on July 27, in Postville, Iowa. Some illegal aliens had signs saying “We are not criminals.” As you might know, about 400 illegal aliens were arrested in May at the Agriprocessing plant in Postville. They were charged with stealing Social Security numbers and identities. They were convicted. They are thieves and criminals. Identity theft is not a victimless crime. Many Americans now are spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours trying to repair their damage names and credit history. Pro illegal alien people and most newscasters call us racist or bigots. When you read a newspaper article they usually say we are against immigrants. We are not against immigrants. We are against illegal aliens or illegal immigrants, if you wish. As for being bigots, in that demonstration in Postville, we had many legal immigrant Somalians that were on our side of the street. We also had a group of Hispanics that are members of “You Don’t Speak for Me.” We were joking and talking with all of them. There was no animosity.
