A LeRoy teen may have suffered two broken legs Wednesday after losing control and tipping a Polaris Ranger, which trapped him in the ditch for 15 minutes until paramedics arrived, according to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi.
Amazi said the 15 year old was on his way to a football meeting traveling about 15 mph on 767th Avenue in LeRoy when he hit loose gravel and tipped “due to excessive breaking and over-correction.”
The sheriff stated that the Ranger landed on top of the teen in the ditch, where he called a friend who called 911.
The LeRoy Fire Department, LeRoy Ambulance and Mason City, Iowa-based Mercy Hospital air dispatch responded to the scene. Amazi said the boy’s lower left leg bones and right femur may have been fractured in the crash.
He was flown to Mason City, Iowa.
