Doggy Dip is an event worth having

It’s an idea that makes a lot of sense.

Austin Park and Recreation hosted its annual Doggy Dip Sunday, a chance for residents and their canines to go for a swim for an hour and a half before the pool closes for the wintertime.

The event is inexpensive and gives everyone a chance to bring their mutts and their purebreds down to the municipal pool and socialize in a community that doesn’t yet offer a dog park.

Sunday’s event brought 78 dogs, which is especially noteworthy since the previous record was less than half that.

And it doesn’t really matter how dirty the pool gets anyway because it will be drained for the season.

Austin offers a lot of small-town events throughout the year, especially during the holidays, and it’s those types of activities that help make the community unique and worth living in.

The Doggy Dip is one of them.
