Kim Bissen of Adams won the first Mower County Corn/Soybean Growers tractor pull competition.
Held last Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Mower County Fair, the tractor pull featured tractors in the 10,500-pound class.
Bissen took home $300 for his winning pull.
Corey Kruse finished second and won $200.
Corey Ziegler finished third and won $100.
The Corn/Soybean Growers sponsored event was a “way to get the word out about bio-fuels,” said Mike Merten, president of the association.
“Because of the tractor pullers and the state mandates requiring the use of bio-fuels, we had the perfect audience to hear our message at the tractor pull,” Merten said. “We have a lot of bio-fuels being produced in the area.”
The 2008 Mower County Fair was not the only venue for the Corn/Soybean Growers Association to take the spotlight.
On Monday, Aug. 18, an E-85 Day at the Pumps will be held. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., E-85 gasoline will sell for 85 cents a gallon and diesel fuel will be 20 cents off the regular pump price.
Another E-85 Day at the Pumps will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Budget Oil-Sinclair Service Station in Austin also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the same discounts.
