Austin volleyball team wins first contest

The Austin volleyball team got its first win of the season, beating Kingsland 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 Tuesday in Packer Gym.

The Packers defense had a big impact as the game as Emma Arboe provided 18 digs in the back row and Jolene Brody had 14 digs to go with her five kills.

“We had some great plays in our back row,” Austin head coach Darica Schneider said. “Emma Arboe was getting to everything and our coverage was a lot better tonight.”

Rebekah Aase provided some big hitting for Austin (1-1 overall) as she had 12 kills and five ace blocks.

“She takes so much energy to the court and picks up the pace to were we like it,” Schneider said.

Nichelle Grage and Ellen Ettinger each had 13 assists for Austin, Julia Wagner was 13-of-13 on serves, and Bri Mayer had five kills and four ace blocks.

Hanna Losey had eight kills for Kingsland (0-1 overall), Jordan Buchholtz had 14 assists, Liz Bain had 17 digs and Alyssa Frank had two ace blocks.
