The Packers football team is anxious and its time for them to take the field as their season opens in Red Wing Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Austin opened their season with a win over the Wingers last season and they are pumped up at another chance to do it.

“No matter what football team you may view at this point in the season, you are bound to see some excitement, anticipation, nervousness, and energy. We are no different,” Austin head coach Tim Hermann said. “These guys have done much in the way of preparation. It is time for them to see what they do well and where they need to improve.”

Hermann has pointed to controlling the line of scrimmage as a key factor this season and Austin will be tested early as Red Wing has size on both sides of the line, and they have a great athlete at quarterback. “They seem to run well as a team on both sides of the ball,” Hermann said.

The Packers have done a lot of offseason work over the summer and Thursday will be the time to see if it pays off.

“We have several veterans on this team and they have seen action last season, during the summer in team camp scrimmages, as well as in the fall,” Hermann said. “They should know exactly what they are doing and I look forward to them playing well.”

Austin will also get a good look at a team from its section.

“I am not sure that seeding is affected greatly by this game, but it

gives us a chance to see a section opponent and gauge ourselves that

way,” Hermann said.
