A 23-year-old man faces five drug felony drug charges for allegedly selling methamphetamine and a cocaine-like substance to a confidential informant working with police last February.
Carlos Leon-Riveros, of Austin, pleaded not guilty to three counts of second-degree drug sale and single counts of third-degree drug sale and sale of a simulated controlled substance.
The maximum penalty for the most severe charge — second-degree drug crime — is 25 years in prison and/or a $500,000 fine.
The criminal complaint said Leon-Riveros sold drugs to the informant four times over the course of February, three times supplying meth and one time the simulated substance.
The first sale allegedly occurred Feb. 15, when the informant arranged purchase of an “eight ball” of methamphetamine from the defendant. The transaction took place at the old Cashwise parking lot off 18th Avenue Northwest, and involved 3.6 grams of methamphetamine, the complaint states.
Leon-Riveros also allegedly sold meth to the informant on two more occasions: 2.4 grams Feb. 19 and 3.3 grams Feb. 28. The second sale took place at one of two homes — 611 Second St. N.W. — where the defendant allegedly lived, the complaint said.
On Feb. 22, the informant sought two “eight balls” of cocaine from the defendant, who allegedly supplied 4.4 grams of a substance purportedly cocaine at the corner of Fourth Street Southwest and West Oakland Avenue, according to the complaint.
Later laboratory tests found it to be another narcotic-like substance, the complaint notes.
Leon-Riveros is scheduled to appear in court for pretrial Oct. 10.
