Ruth F. Distad, 96
Ruth Florence Distad died on July 28, 2008, having reached the age of 96.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1912, to John and Julia (Leen) Distad, in Westfield Township, Dodge County.
She attended rural School District 64 and Hayfield High School, graduating in 1928. After graduating from the Dodge Center Teacher Training facility, she obtained a limited teaching certificate. She taught in three rural schools of Dodge County for fifteen years. After attending summer school courses and off-campus courses for a number of years she earned her B.S. degree from Winona State College. In 1953, she joined the Austin Public School system, teaching in Shaw Elementary for twenty two years. She retired in 1975. She held memberships in A.A.R.E.A, REAM, and MEA. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield for many years. Moving to Austin in April 1971, she joined St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, and participated in Circles and WELCA activities. Before retiring she had traveled extensively in the United States and Canada. After retiring she branched out to Europe, Africa, and Israel. Historic sights and scenic wonders were favorites in her travels.
She will be missed by her brother, Clifford Distad, Blooming Prairie, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. All of which loved her very much.
She will be welcomed into heaven by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Friends may call from 5 – 7 Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. Interment is at Fairview Cemetery, Hayfield.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield or St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.
