Riverland College BOSS Ride Saturday

Riverland Community College Foundation’s eighth-annual BOSS Ride (Bikers of Student Success) will be held Saturday.
The BOSS Committee raises funds for the Riverland Community College Foundation to provide scholarships. The group’s primary fundraising event is the “BOSS Ride,” a motorcycle ride through southern Minnesota. This year’s route is new and includes prizes, twists, turns, bluffs, water (not on the road) and beautiful southern Minnesota scenery.
Onsite registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Riverland Community College Austin Campus East Building parking lot. The ride begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at Torge’s Live in Austin. The minimum donation is $25 per motorcycle. To pre-register, visit www.riverland.edu/foundation/bossride or call the foundation office at 433-0630.
All proceeds will go directly to the Riverland Community College Foundation Bikers of Student Success scholarship fund. Students in Albert Lea, Austin, and Owatonna benefit annually from the BOSS fundraiser.
This year the BOSS Ride Committee scheduled additional events in an effort to raise enough money to set up the BOSS Ride Endowed Scholarship. A Foundation scholarship fund must have at least $10,000 in to become endowed. An endowed scholarship means the money in the fund is invested and the income from the interest is distributed in the form of scholarships to students in perpetuity.
In December 2007, the committee sponsored the “Lites & Bites Traveling Tour;” sponsored two concerts on May 30 and 31 featuring Brian Christianson and Friends, a band from Nashville; and sold tickets for a hand-made quilt (biker’s theme). The committee raised more than $11,000, creating the BOSS Ride Endowed Scholarship.
